The Liebermann Villa at Wannsee

In 1909 Max Liebermann built a summer house on the Wannsee Lake, proudly dubbing it his “castle by the sea”.  Here he not only found badly needed peace and quiet from the bustle of the city but also discovered the principal themes of his late work. The 7000 square meter garden, designed according to the artist’s own ideas, is the subject of more than 200 paintings.
